兩岸舟船各背馳，Counter to each other, the vessels both sides run.

波浪交涉亦難為。Even the wave they stirred are hard to confront.

只余鷗鷺無拘管，Only the gulls and egrets are without any straints.

北去南來自在飛。North or south, they fly freely at ease.

P.S. The poem is irrelevant to the status of both sides of the Strait, but it somewhat illustrates the mindset of the islanders.
