１９８４年，英國樂團文化俱樂部（Culture Club）發行第三張專輯［Waking Up with the House on Fire］（英國榜#2，美國榜#26）。

儘管這張專輯在英國和美國都獲得白金認證，但與前兩張專輯相比，其商業和口碑都令人失望。

 

由於與團員Moss的戀情破裂，以及與其他成員的緊張關係，喬治開始沉迷於毒品以尋求慰藉，很快就染上毒癮。

到１９８６年，喬治的毒癮已經非常嚴重。

在籌備文化俱樂部第四張錄音室大碟［From Luxury to Heartache／從奢華到心碎］時， 錄製工作進展緩慢，以至於土耳其製作人Arif Mardin不得不因先前的工作安排而放棄錄音，將剩餘的工作交給錄音師Lew Hahn完成。

由喬治男孩（Boy George）, Roy Hay, Mikey Craig, Jon Moss,Phil Pickett創作，

Steve Levine製作成一首合成流行／白人靈魂曲，

節奏輕快，旋律琅琅上口．

《Music Week》Jerry Smith稱讚這首歌是“一首經典的流行歌曲”，喬治“在精良的製作基礎上展現了強勁的嗓音”。這首歌「絕對比那張糟糕的專輯《Waking Up with the House on Fire》裡的任何一首歌都要好」。

［Move Away］表現差強人意，但第二首單曲《God Thank You Woman》發行時，喬治吸毒成癮的消息開始在英國和美國的報紙上流傳，導致成績不佳，
