１９８７年春天　美國音樂鬼才巨星王子（Prince）發行第９張大碟〔Sign “O” the Times／時代的記號〕（Paisley Park／Warner Bros.）

原本他打算製作成長達三片唱片專輯，但華納強迫他縮小到剩下兩片。

專輯中的歌曲完全由王子譜寫, 編曲, 製作。

〔Sign “O” the Times〕推出後大受好評，拿到滾石雜誌五顆星評價，

被很多樂評視為王子畢生最偉大的作品。

隔年為他拿到葛萊美年度專輯的提名
