Complain and Complaint
這組字在多益測驗與日常溝通很常見,但常被使用者混淆。
簡單來說,兩字雖字義相近但詞性不同,故用法也有不同。
首先,“complain”是動詞,而“complaint”是名詞,定義為「抱怨」
,其後都可加上介繫詞 “about”來連接要抱怨的人、事、物,
但 “complaint”還必需搭配動詞“make”一齊使用,例如:
The service is perfect; I really have nothing to complain about.
I am unsatisfied with the room service; I will make a complaint about
such poor service.
如要說明提出抱怨的對象,兩字都可加上介繫詞“to”,如:
Our customer just complained to the headquarters about our
latest model.

We should make a complaint to the seating host about the location
of our table.
註:seating host (n.) 領班
另外,在歐美國家有時顧客會以正式的書面型式抱怨產品或
服務品質,此種情況則用動詞“file”加上“complaint”,仍可搭配
“about”或“to”,此時的“file”為正式提出之義,如:
I cannot accept your apology; I will file a complaint to your
supervisor.
