　　保羅．克利是二十世紀最富詩意與改革精神的藝術家之一。他以諷刺性與幽默感的表達手法、極富感性的詩意線條，結合夢幻意象與多樣技法，在藝術史上實屬罕見，值得珍視。
　　克利的藝術生涯起源於慕尼黑，數次的義大利、北非與中東之旅，成為他藝術創作的靈感泉源；任教包浩斯學院，成功地結合自由即興技法，並致力探討造型結構，開創藝術創作的成熟時期；不斷嘗試造型、色彩等技法的生動實驗，發展出深具抒情風味的獨特風格。
　　克利認為：創作的起源比結果更重要，而演變又優於存在。他的作品充滿了抽象的風景與小型的宇宙世界，表達他的人生苦難經歷以及他所沈醉的生存現實。他一生致力於抽象與非具象表現的探究，由觀念描述轉入視覺，從人物轉入大自然與歷史，乃至於純藝術的追求；他藉由象徵來傳達藝術理念，為後世畫家樹立了一個嶄新的典範。


重新欣賞克利的畫作。
從他接觸學習美術、製作版畫開始；到異國旅行；在包浩斯擔任講師…，在這些抽象藝術的作品中，符號、幾何圖案，以及描繪天使具體形像的輪廓，都能讓人感到一種神祕而祥和的寧靜氣息。

德國哲學家及評論家班雅明 (Walter Benjamin, 1892-1940)，特別喜歡克利的作品，他還曾經收藏了保羅‧克利 (Paul Klee) 的《新天使》(Angelus Novus)。




他在〈歷史哲學論綱〉(Theses on the Philosophy of History, 1940) 曾經如此評論這幅畫：
There is a painting by Klee called Angelus Novus. An angel is depicted there who looks as though he were about to distance himself from something which he is staring at. His eyes are opened wide, his mouth stands open and his wings are outstretched. The Angel of History must look just so. His face is turned towards the past. Where we see the appearance of a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe, which unceasingly piles rubble on top of rubble and hurls it before his feet. He would like to pause for a moment so fair, to awaken the dead and to piece together what has been smashed. But a storm is blowing from Paradise, it has caught itself up in his wings and is so strong that the Angel can no longer close them. The storm drives him irresistibly into the future, to which his back is turned, while the rubble-heap before him grows sky-high. That which we call progress, is this storm.
保羅‧克利的《新天使》，畫的是一個天使看上去正要從他入神地注視的事物旁離去。他凝視著前方，他的嘴微張，他的翅膀張開了。人們就是這樣描繪歷史天使的。他的臉朝著過去。在我們認為是一連串事件的地方，他看到的是一場單一的災難。這場災難堆積著屍骸，將它們拋棄在他的面前。天使想停下來喚醒死者，把破碎的世界修補完整。可是從天堂吹來了一陣風暴，它猛烈地吹襲著天使的翅膀，以致他再也無法把它們收攏。這風暴無可抗拒地把天使刮向他背對著的未來，而他面前的殘垣斷壁卻越堆越高直逼天際。這場風暴就是我們所稱的進步。
