職場常見英語錯誤(2)

  今日來討論昨日所列的五個句子：

1. I plan to live at The Peninsula Hotel when I travel to Hong Kong.

在旅館住宿屬短暫停留，應用stay (v.)。此錯誤通常是因為受漢語

文法影響，因為漢語中的「住」可指短期或長期的停留。修正後

的句子為：

I plan to stay at The Peninsula Hotel when I travel to Hong Kong.

2. We need to have our PPT done by Friday afternoon.

這是常見的中式英文。若要指投影片應用slide(s) (n.)。常在簡報中

聽到“Now let’s look at the next PPT”。應說“Now let’s look at the next

slide”。 修正後的句子為：

We need to have our slides done by Friday afternoon.

3. Oh no! I can’t find my USB on my desk.

這也是常見的中式英文。若要指隨身碟應用flash drive (n.)。修正後

的句子為：

Oh no! I can’t find my flash drive on my desk.

4. Nice to meet you. Where are you come from?

很常見的小錯誤，這是所謂的雙重動詞(Double verb)；在沒有對等

連接詞的連接下在一個句子中使用兩個或以上的動詞，如此句中

的“are”與“come”，我們應將Be動詞“are”改為助動詞“do”。修正後

的句子為：

Nice to meet you. Where do you come from?

5.     We should order our plane tickets in advance.

若要表示訂交通工具的票、活動門票、旅館，英語慣用的動詞

是“book”，而 “order”通常是指訂購商品，如訂購了一臺車

“order a Toyota”。 修正後的句子為：

We should book our plane tickets in advance.
