最近偶爾看到這個片語, 雖然它不是很正式, 也不算常看到, 但還是把它重新整理一下. 據說kibosh一字是來自於阿拉伯語 “qurbāsh,” 用來形容一個懲罰用的鞭子. 延伸為有"阻止(某計劃, 想法等), 使…破滅, "等的意思. 我個人認為還可以有"打擊, 削弱"的意思.

1. 通常當名詞使用時, 是一個片語出現.
The boss finally put the kibosh on our two-hour lunch meetings. 老闆最終決定停止我們兩個小時的午餐會議.
2. 字典上也有說可以當動詞用.
Youd better kibosh that nonsense before it gets you in trouble. 在它給你招惹麻煩之前, 你最好停止那個無稽之談.

其它的例子.
* The Fed is widely expected to put the kibosh on its six-year old stimulus plan. 美國聯儲會廣泛地被預期會停止它六年多的振興方案.

* The company puts the kibosh on the rumor by publicly announcing that it runs in normal condition. 公司中止了謠言, 並且公開聲稱它營運正常.

* Europe’s debt troubles would put the kibosh on global growth. 歐洲的債務問題會阻礙全球的發展.

* Raging inflation and soaring interest rates have put the kibosh on tech stocks. 猖獗的通膨還有上漲的利率己打擊到電子股.
