[ 大道之行也，天下為公 ]

When the Great Way is implemented, the world-state is for the equality of all peoples.

　　[ 選賢與能 ]

The sagacious and capable are appointed as civilian officials.

　　[ 講信修睦 ]

Trustworthiness is instilled and neighborliness cultivated.

　　[ 故人不獨親其親，不獨子其子]

Therefore, people are pious to all parents, not just their own parents, nurture all children, not just their own children.

　　[ 使老有所終，壯有所用，幼有所長]

The old are provided for till their death, the adults are employed, and the young developed.

　　[ 鰥、寡、孤、獨、廢疾者皆有所養]

Widows and widowers, orphans and the childless, the sick and disabled, all are well cared for.

　　[ 男有分，女有歸]

Men have their proper positions, women their families.

　　[ 貨惡其棄於地也，不必藏於己]

Wasting of commodities are despised, nor hording them for their own use.

　　[ 力惡其不出於身也，不必為己]

Not contributing one’s efforts are abhorred, same as devoting them for one’s own ends.

　　 [ 是故謀閉而不興，盜竊亂賊而不作]

Thus, evil schems are repressed and cannot flourish; robbers, thieves, and rebels cannot commit their crimes.

　　 [ 故外戶而不閉，是謂大同]~

So when people do not need to close their front doors, it is called "the Age of Great Comity."
