Hello, friends!
Welcome to Let’s Talk in English. My name is Esther.
And my name is Garrett. Today, we’ll travel with Campbell to see what we can find.
Right! An island is a piece of land that is surrounded by water.
So, you need to take a boat or another form of transportation to get there.
Exactly! And because there is water all around, many islands have great water activities.
That is definitely true for Xiao Liuqiu!
So, we will learn about those today as well.
Now, let’s go to our Find It question. Our question is:
What gives you a window to the underwater world?
What gives you a window to the underwater world?
Friends, we will look down underwater to find the answer to that question.
Now, let’s go to Sonya, who will teach us today’s keywords.
Get ready for some serious fun on the amazing shores of Xiao Liuqiu!
They can float.
They are a great way to explore the ocean.
They don’t have motors.
You can see through the bottom into the water below.
It’s like having a window to the underwater world.
Hey, friends! Welcome to E-Report!
My name is Campbell.
And my name is Gabe. Welcome to Xiao Liuqiu!
Do you like water activities?
If you do, get ready for some serious fun near the amazing shores of Xiao Liuqiu!
The sunny weather and warm, crystal-clear water make Xiao Liuqiu a perfect place for people to enjoy snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and more.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve spent your whole life on the water, or if you’ve never swum before—Xiao Liuqiu has something for everyone!
Don’t have any equipment? Don’t worry!
You can find everything you need for a great time in the water.
There! Come on, let’s dive in and have some fun!
Oh, so much fun!
Alright, friends!
We’re talking about the island of Xiao Liuqiu. And like we said earlier, it is great for water activities.
Right! These are activities you do near water or even in the water.
So, if you like water activities, you need to get ready for some serious fun!
Not just regular fun, but very serious fun. That means great fun on the amazing shores of Xiao Liuqiu!
At an ocean, or even a lake or river, there are shores.
That’s the land that is right next to the water, right?
You can stand there and enjoy some water activities.
In Xiao Liuqiu, the weather is often sunny and clear.
When it’s sunny, it means the sun is shining, right?
The warm water there is perfect for activities like snorkeling, swimming, and more.
Snorkeling is when you swim with a tube that lets you breathe, right?
But it’s a little different from scuba diving.
That’s when you also need to wear a tank of air or oxygen.
Well, it doesn’t matter if you’ve spent your whole life on the water.
And it doesn’t matter if you’ve never swum before.
That’s what Sonya is going to teach us about!
And it doesn’t matter if you’ve never swum before.
句型:
It doesn’t matter if + 主詞 + has/have never + 過去分詞 + before
It doesn’t matter if they have never traveled by plane before.
It doesn’t matter if he has never been to a movie theater before.
It doesn’t matter if she has never tried Indian food before.
Thank you so much, Sonya!
Yes! We learned that it doesn’t matter if you can’t swim, or if you don’t love water activities—really, Xiao Liuqiu has something for everyone!
That means there are many activities for people who like different things.
That’s good to know because I don’t know how to swim!
Do you think I could still go there and have fun?
I think so! I think you’d have a great time.
Friends, let’s keep watching in Part Two!
Haha!
Are you alright, Gabe?
Oh yeah, I’m fine. You know, that was challenging but super fun!
Yeah, well, you did great for your first time on an SUP (stand-up paddleboard).
Thanks! You too! Haha!
Thanks! Balancing on the board while moving through the water was not as easy as I thought it would be.
You’re right! It takes a lot of practice to balance on the board and then to use the paddle to move the board forward.
But once we got used to it, it was actually a pretty fun way to explore the ocean.
I think so too! And guess what? I even got to see a sea turtle!
What?!
Yeah!
Hmm… haha!
Well, friends, today is all about having fun on the water! So, Gabe, what do you want to try next?
Well, of course, I would like to see a sea turtle as well! But let’s try a hydrobike.
Oh! Sounds fun! Let’s do it!
Alright!
Hydrobikes are bicycles that you ride in the water.
They can float.
You sit on them and pedal just like on a regular bike.
The pedals turn a big wheel under the water, which makes the hydrobike move forward.
They’re easy to use! Just sit down, hold onto the handlebars, and start pedaling.
They are a great way to get some exercise and explore the ocean.
The great thing about hydrobikes is that they don’t have motors.
This means they are environmentally friendly and also less dangerous for sea creatures living in the water.
Okay, this is something new to me! I’ve never heard of hydrobikes.
Right! Well, these are special bicycles that you can ride in the water.
Now, friends, when you hear the first part of the word—the prefix hydro—it means it has to do with water.
So, you can say they are water bikes or water bicycles.
Exactly!
You need to push your feet forward to make the bike go forward, but you will always stay above the water.
That’s because these bikes can float.
That’s what float means—when you can stay above the water, it means you can float.
If you want to learn how to swim, you first need to know how to float!
That’s right!
Well, you sit on these hydrobikes and pedal.
Pedal is the action you do when you push your feet on the pedals, right?
And this is what you do when you ride a bicycle—you use your feet and pedal, just like how you do on a regular bike.
We also heard that hydrobikes are a great way to get exercise and explore the ocean.
The ocean is, well, the massive body of water that stretches all around the earth.
This is different from smaller lakes and rivers that are inland.
And what’s great about these hydrobikes is that they don’t have motors.
Motors are machines in cars that make them move, right?
But here, you are the motor! You’re the one who pushes the bike forward.
And since they don’t have motors, they’re good for the environment and less dangerous for life under the water.
They won’t hurt the fish and turtles that live in the ocean.
Well, these hydrobikes sure sound fun!
Friends, it’s time for us to take a break. Don’t go away—we’ll be right back!
🎵 Every day, every day, that’s the way… 🎵
Welcome back to the show, everyone!
Earlier, we heard the word shore—the piece of land that’s next to the water, like next to the ocean.
But how is that different from the word beach?
Well, when we’re talking about a beach, we’re talking about land that has sand.
People can sit there and watch the ocean or even a lake.
Yeah! A beach is a place where people can hang out, whereas a shore might not have any space at all.
Let’s keep watching our E-Report!
Another fun water activity you can try in Xiao Liuqiu is kayaking.
Kayaks are small boats, and people use paddles to move kayaks through the water.
At Xiao Liuqiu, they have special kayaks with glass bottoms.
That means you can see through the bottom of the kayak into the water below!
It’s like having a window to the underwater world!
These glass-bottom kayaks let you see colorful fish, beautiful coral reefs, and maybe even some playful sea turtles!
You can learn a lot about marine life while having fun paddling around the clear waters of Xiao Liuqiu.
Hey Campbell, check out this photo I took while I was in the kayak!
Nice! You can totally see what was under your boat in the water!
Yeah!
Man, today was great! I loved experiencing all those different water sports.
Me too! It’s always fun to try new things, don’t you think?
Yeah! It’s great to try things you’ve never done before. It really makes life more interesting and colorful.
I agree!
Well, friends, that’s all the time we have for today’s E-Report!
Thanks for joining us for a fun day of water activities!
I’ll see you next time for our next fun E-Report adventure!
Bye-bye!
Now, we’re talking about a water activity that I enjoy—kayaking!
Right! A kayak is a small boat.
Usually, only one or two people can fit on this boat, and it floats on top of the water.
You use an oar—kind of like a stick—and push it through the water to move forward.
The action you’re doing is kayaking—on a boat called a kayak.
Right! So you can say, I enjoy kayaking at the river!
Well, kayaks are small boats, and at Xiao Liuqiu, they have special kayaks with glass bottoms.
Think about it, friends! You can look right down at all the life underneath you in the ocean.
That’s amazing!
So, you’ll be able to see lots of fish and other wildlife.
That means you can see through the bottom of the kayak into the water below.
Below just means underneath.
Yeah! You can look below!
Well, friends, you can also look and try to find today’s Find It answer!
The question was:
What gives you a window to the underwater world?
Going kayaking in a boat with a glass bottom!
Yes! It’s like having a window to the underwater world!
You look right through it and see what’s on the other side.
Just like with a window in your house—you can see through it, right?
When you’re looking through a window, you’re inside a home or apartment, looking outside.
It’s that piece of glass that is clear and shows you what’s on the other side!
Now, friends, let’s go to Sonya!
It’s like having a window to the underwater world.
Sleeping on this bed is like sleeping on the clouds.
Being in this castle is like living in a dream.
Working without getting anything done is like running in circles.
Thank you so much, Sonya!

Hi, friends! Welcome back to What’s Next!
Let’s take a look at some pictures and try to understand the story.
Let’s see if we can guess what will happen next!
📸 The first picture is at a drive-thru restaurant.
The lady—who kind of looks like my mom—is ordering fast food.
The girl in the uniform works at the drive-thru restaurant
and is handing the food and drink to the lady in the van.
I also see a cute little baby in the back seat.
I wonder what she ordered!
📸 The next picture is inside the van.
The lady is driving and holding her drink.
She seems focused on her driving.
But what’s this?!
I see an animal peeking from behind the chair!
It looks like a dog, and it looks like it is carefully watching the food on the chair!
Uh-oh! 😲
Do you think that animal is hungry?
What will the dog do next?
What will happen next?
📸 Aha! Yes! That food was hard to resist!
The dog started eating the fast food out of the bag!
Or… did the baby steal the food?
No! The baby can’t move because it is sitting in a car seat!
The lady is shocked—and maybe a little angry!
Both the dog and the baby look innocent.
I think the lady will need to get more fast food!
Dogs love to eat any kind of food!
You have to watch out, or they might steal your food while you’re driving.
If people travel with a dog, I guess this kind of thing can happen.
If they smell food, dogs will always be curious!
Maybe next time, that lady should leave her dog at home.
Then she can go to a fast-food restaurant with no problems!
Thanks for joining me today on What’s Next!
Well, friends!
We learned about some fun water activities you can do at Xiao Liuqiu!
And we know that Esther is not a big swimmer.
But Esther, would you want to try any of these?
If you had things that let you float?
For sure!
I think riding a kayak—or going kayaking—would be fun!
If you can see what’s underneath… maybe even see a giant green sea turtle!
Oh, that would be great! Yes!
And kayaking can be great exercise! You need to use your arms quite a lot.
Well, friends, think about what you would like to do,
and join us again tomorrow right here on Let’s Talk in English!
Goodbye! 👋
