１９８７年８月，英國搖滾樂團新秩序（New Order）推出精選輯［Substance 1987／物質1987］（Factory Records發行），收錄樂團當時所有單曲的12吋版本及其各自的B面曲目。
樂團貝斯手Peter Hook聲稱，這張專輯的誕生是因為 Factory Records 的老闆Tony Wilson買了一輛內置 CD 播放器的新款捷豹，他想把新秩序的所有熱門歌曲都收錄到一張 CD 裡。

由新秩序樂團成員與Stephen Hague創作，並共同製作成一首合成流行／另類舞曲。
節奏強勁，節拍明快．
單曲MV中，兩名男子輪流掌摑對方，引發媒體關注，並在音樂電視台頻繁播放，幫助樂團拓展了受眾群體。
新秩序在製作人 Stephen Hague 的指導下，於錄音室進行了為期 10 天的錄製，創作並錄製了［True Faith］和［1963］兩首歌曲。
這兩首歌曲最初是為新秩序的首支單曲精選專輯［ubstance 1987］創作的新歌。錄製完成後，樂團的美國經紀公司認為［True Faith］更勝一籌，決定將其作為新單曲發行，而［1963］則作為 B面歌曲
