曹州於令儀者，市井人也，長厚不忤物，晚年家頗豐富。一夕，盜入其室，諸子擒之，乃鄰子也。令儀曰：“汝素寡悔，何苦而為盜邪？”曰：“迫於貧耳！”問其所欲，曰：“得十千足以衣食。”如其欲與之。既去，復呼之，盜大恐。謂曰：“汝貧甚，夜負十千以歸，恐為人所詰。留之，至明使去。"盜大感愧，卒為良民。鄉里稱君為善士。君擇子侄之秀者，起學室，延名儒以掖之，子、侄傑仿舉進士第，今為曹南令族。

 A wealthy businessman from Cao County named Wu Lingyi was amicable and honest in his later years. One night, a burglar came but was seized by the sons of Wu. They found that the burglar was a boy from a next-door neighbor, so Wu wondered why an always well-behaved kid like him would commit theft. The boy replied, "I am just wanting badly." How much did you want? "Only ten strings of coins for the food and clothes will do," was the answer. Wu gave all he wanted. When the boy left, Wu stopped him instantly. The boy was scaled to death. Wu soothed him, " A poor kid like you who is bringing ten strings of coins on your back in the night would bring suspicion from others. Put the money here and take it the next morning." The boy was ashamed and followed the instructions, and he became a law-abiding citizen since. The folks all extolled Wu as a good Samaritan.
