One of the tributaries of Jianxi Brook (建溪), originating from northern Fujian Province, flows through Mt. WuYi. Tourists can pay for a 90-minute raft drifting along the sinuous stream, enjoying the most parts of the scenery of the Wuyisan, actually the huge, muti-shaped, standing-alone green cliffs. (By the way, the rafts are not made of bamboo anymore; instead, they are made of plastic material.)
Besides enjoying the scenery on the rafts, the tourists can also have some fun feeding fish in the clear blue water. Whenever they spread the special fish food on the water, swarms of fish will gather immediately for the snacks. But the voracious fish may have latent danger before them: the egrets on the rocks are watching the jumping fish with eager eyes. I just could not believe my eyes when I saw an egret sprinting toward a fish and catching it almost simultaneously when a tourist spread the food on the surface of the water. Birds die for food, and so do fish.
Mr. Zhu Xi (朱熹), one of the greatest polymathes who had spent most of his life in Wuyisan, left some articles and poems for the scenery. Attached below is his 九曲棹歌, praising the ineffable beauties of Wuyisan and the stream. FYI, I might translate it if only I could.
