I first heard of the song in the mid-1980s, when I was working in New York, and a locally hired employee sang it at a Christmas gathering. He later told me that during the Cultural Revolution, the song had been virtually the unofficial national anthem of China.
Now I have the lyrics to the song and its English translation, which are attached below. You may not like the song, but its translation is perfect.
(FYI, the composer of the song had been a household figure before the death of Mao, but after that he had received interogation for ten years. Why was that? You can find his story online if you are interested.)
