Winter Solstice comes one day later here in the State.  To my wife and me, this special day is not necessarily the day of eating sweet dumplings.  But my daughter may not know this traditional Chinese day, let alone my two granddaughters; thus, we decided to "observe" the festival with them.

This afternoon we came to a Chinese supermarket to buy some sweet dumplings to share them with my daughter and her kids.  Surprisingly, our favorite dumplings of sesame flavor had been all sold out.  So, we had to pick the less favorite ones: red bean and peanut.  A little to my dismay, my granddaughters seemed not that interested in sweet dumplings.  

I told myself it is okay not to let kids have the habit of eating sweets too much, too often.  By the way, I took the opportunity to teach my elder granddaughter the word: solstice.
