别夢依稀咒逝川，
Lingering in my mind has been wistful nostalgia
故園三十二年前。
of my hometown since I left thirty-two years ago.
紅旗卷起農奴戟，
Under Red banner peasants rose with their tools
黑手高懸霸主鞭。
fighting against the tyranny of landlords’ whips.
為有犧牲多壮志，
Because not afraid of sacrifice we had the courage
敢教日月换新天。
to change the Sun and the Moon for new skies.
喜看稻菽千重浪，
Now I am happy to see the barley rippling in the wind,
遍地英雄下夕烟。
and brave new famers returning amid smoke from chimneys.
