１９６９年成立於洛杉磯的西爾斯&克羅夫茨（Seals & Crofts）是美國軟式搖滾二人組，由 Jim Seals 和 Dash Crofts組成。
１９６９年踏入歌壇．
１９７４年２月 西爾斯與克羅夫茨推出的的六張大碟［Unborn Child／未出生的孩子］（華納唱片發行）由Louie Shelton製作．
這張專輯的創作靈感源自於錄音工程師 Joseph Bogan 的妻子 Lana Bogan 在觀看一部關於墮胎的電視紀錄片後，創作一首以墮胎胎兒視角出發的詩歌。
在西爾斯與克羅夫茨製作新專輯期間，Bogan 將這首詩拿給西爾斯看。
她請他為這首詩譜曲，這首歌後來成了專輯的主打單曲［Unborn Child］。
西爾斯和克羅夫茨是巴哈伊教的信徒，其教義認為生命始於受孕。
在聽完整張專輯後，西爾斯和克羅夫茲決定以主打單曲的名字命名專輯，因為他們認為這首歌最能代表專輯的概念。
據克羅夫茨說，華納曾警告他們不要發行這張專輯，因為墮胎這個話題極具爭議性。兩人堅持《未出生的孩子》所傳達的訊息是普世的，克羅夫茨表示，他們製作這張專輯是為了「拯救生命」。
這張專輯發行後，引發巨大爭議。同名主打歌因其反墮胎立場而遭到強烈反對，並被一些電台禁播。［Unborn Child］損害了兩人人氣，並受到音樂評論家的批評。這場爭議降低希爾斯和克羅夫茨的知名度，並減緩了他們的音樂事業發展。
