２００８年　美國黑人美女凡妮莎．威廉絲（Vanessa Williams）與以爵士為主的廠牌Concord唱片公司。

２００９年, ４６歲的凡妮莎推出第八張錄音室大碟［The Real Thing／真實事物］

原本打算製作成一張巴西風格的專輯, 後來增加一定比例的R&B曲風。

製作群包括Keith Thomas，Babyface，Rob Mathes，Rex Rideout。

樂風以拉丁, R&B ,古典與爵士等, 但樂評好壞兩極。

 

首支主打為２００９年２月便發行的［Breathless／屏息］

由Lauren Evans, Tai Jackson, Rex Rideout譜寫 ，Nicholas Lane編曲

Rex Rideout製作成一首融合R&B, 輕爵士與拉丁的抒情曲

在悠緩的節奏間, 凡妮莎以柔滑的嗓音細膩演繹。

MV中, 她並以１９４０年代的復古美豔歌姬早型現身。

此時威廉絲在歌壇聲勢下滑許久, ［Breathless／屏息］並沒打入Billboard單曲榜跟副榜。

不過凡妮莎表示, 這是她在［The Real Thing／真實事物］中最喜歡的歌曲之一。
