１９８７年８月２５日　２２歲的日本歌壇女皇中森明菜發行第十張大碟［Cross My Palm／算命］（Warner Music Japan）

這是明菜唯一的英語專輯。

大碟由歐美音樂人包辦詞曲, 編曲, 製作, 選在紐約錄音。

曲風相當歐美化──除了中森明菜的英語發音, 在英美人士耳中聽來可能怪腔怪調。

明菜說, 這張大碟花了三個月錄音, 比其它專輯長, 因為歌曲全是英語,

對她來說, 發音有不少困難要克服。

撇開發音, 基本上這是張製作精良的大碟, 歌曲動聽, 明菜在灌錄歌曲時, 以比平常高的Key演繹, 呈現跟以前中低音不同的風情。

 

華納並從１２首歌曲中揀選８首, 拍成［Cross My Palm］影碟。

明菜飾演一名前往美國追求音樂夢想的歌手, 最後達到目標。

儘管製作團隊為日本人, 影片攝影頗有歐美風格。

另要也發行寫真書『中森明菜写真集 VISUAL BOOK Cross My Palm』。

雖說這是英文大碟, 基本仍是瞄準日本市場。

［Cross My Palm］再度讓中森登上Oricon專輯榜冠軍, 榜上銷售３４.８萬張, 明列１９８７年暢銷專輯＃１９。

 

 

專輯未發行先發單曲, 但推出數首宣傳主打

其中之一是［THE LOOK THAT KILLS/致命一瞥］

由曾在英國與歐洲發展的印度音樂人Biddu＆Winston Sela譜寫, 被製作成一首舞曲-流行曲,

旋律討好, 節拍輕快, 明菜以比平常高的假音演繹,

［THE LOOK THAT KILLS］是英文原版, 但華納將此曲請麻生圭子改寫日文詞, 歌名改成［BLONDE］中村哲重新編曲, 明菜以中低音演繹

１９８７年６月提前發行, 反比［THE LOOK THAT KILLS］早面世, 登上Oricon單曲榜冠軍.

由於編曲, 唱法改變太多, 筆者剛聽根本認不出兩曲同母, 均為Biddu-Winston Sela的作品,

直到看見網路介紹才曉得。

在［Cross My Palm］中, ［THE LOOK THAT KILLS］是首顯眼的歌曲, 也可能是其最著名的宣傳主打。
