1. Outburst
Definition: a surge of activity or growth
Example: There was a remarkable outburst of work in the office as the visiting VIPs made their tour.
2.Repudiate
Definition:  to refuse to have anything to do with
Example: He has publicly repudiated the government's policies.
3. Dormant
Definition: temporarily in abeyance yet capable of being activated
Example: The seeds will remain dormant until the spring.
4. Decline
Definition:  to tend toward an inferior state or weaker condition
Example: The construction of new houses declined five percent this year.
5. Encompass
Definition: to form a circle about
Example: The district encompasses most of the downtown area.
6. Accession
Definition: increase by something added
Example: the accession of Queen Elizabeth II
7. pagan
Definition: a follower of a polytheistic religion
Example: The Spanish conquistadores regarded the native peoples of the lands that they conquered as pagans who were uncivilized and inherently inferior.
8. ascendancy
Definition: governing or controlling influence
Example: A book chronicling the ascendancy of fascism in Europe after World War I.
9. intermittently
Definition: coming and going at intervals
Example: The forecast is for intermittent rain.
10. emulate
Definition: to strive to equal or excel
Example: She grew up emulating her sports heroes.
11. vernacular
Definition: using a language or dialect native to a region or country rather than a literary, cultured, or foreign language
Example: The vernacular architecture of the region.
12. acclaim
Definition: applaud, praise
Example: The critics have acclaimed her performance.
13. embellisher
Definition: to make beautiful with ornamentation
Example: He embellished his speech with a few quotations.
14. chronological
Definition: of, relating to, or arranged in or according to the order of time
Example: His art is displayed in roughly chronological order.
15. monastery
Definition: a house for persons under religious vows
Example: Gregory Mendel worked out his concepts of genetics by doing breeding experiments using pea plants in the monastery’s garden.

Definition: a body of nonselective government officials

Definition: to take up and support as a cause

Definition: placed in or occupying a lower class, rank, or position
Example: His contention is that environment plays a subordinate role to heredity in determining what we become.

Example: Mutual love and respect was the key to their successful marriage.

Example: News of a death in the family bereaved them of the unmitigated joy that normally prevails at a wedding.
