劍外忽傳收薊北， All of a sudden while in the south of Sword Gate, I heard the north of Ji was recovered.
初聞涕淚滿衣裳。 On cloud nine at the good news, tears soaked all over my clothes.
卻看妻子愁何在， I turned to look-- all of the sorrows of my wife and children were gone.
漫捲詩書喜欲狂。 In rapture, I hastened to roll up my books and poems.
白日放歌須縱酒， At bright daylight, I would intoxicate myself in singing and drinking.
青春作伴好還鄉。 With the company of spring, I should return to my hometown with my family.
即從巴峽穿巫峽， My heart was flying, from Ba Gorge through Wu Gorge.
便下襄陽向洛陽。 All the way, through Xiangyang to Luoyang.
