In the wake of his last visit on a 052D destroyer in Qingdao the other day, Lu, a retired captain, intended to apply another one on the carrier Fujian, according to reports. If his request is granted, he will be a lucky guy.
Captain Lu exclaimed "A strong fatherland is the guarantee of safty for Taiwan" when he was awed by the sophisticated Chinese destroyer. His words infuriated the DPP administration and he received vitriol like a flood. But please think twice, what is wrong with his words? If you think otherwise, please give me a plausible explanation.

Captain Lu’s words emphasize that national security depends on the overall strength of the state. This is a military and geopolitical observation, not necessarily aimed at any particular political party, but rather a broad understanding of security.
Regardless of support or opposition, the key question is: what truly ensures Taiwan’s safety? Is it self-defense capability, international allies, or peaceful cross-strait relations? Captain Lu’s statement offers one perspective, but society should engage in rational discussion rather than emotional attacks.
Certainly, a peaceful Taiwan Strait without interferences from outside matters most. Thanks. Retiredbum 於 2026/05/04 01:13回覆
