PS. One day in my senior year of college, several classmates gathered and chatted. Naturally, the goal after graduation was one of the topics we discussed. A girl said "running" to the US, or Canada, is her ultimate goal in life, nothing else. Actually, right after graduation and even before the boys went to take military service, she had gone to Canada on a student visa. We have never heard of her since.

She is the daughter of a high-ranking KMT bureaucrat. Well, her "running" was a telltale sign of the social mindset in Taiwan during the sixties.

BTW, I have always said it is neither good nor bad of "running" to other countries as long as people do not do it in an unnatural way.
