英語萬用字(2-2):Take

今日我們繼續來討論“take”其他的名詞搭配,這些搭配
方式在日常溝通也都很普遍。
m. Take +quality
意為需要具備某種特質,通常用於給予他人正面的評價,如:
1. I think it takes great courage to stand up against the whole
corporation.
2. It takes true integrity to protect your friend under such
dangerous circumstance.
n. Take a risk (單複數皆有)
意為冒險,其後常加上動名詞(Gerund),說明冒險的行為,如:
I cannot take risks investing my entire pension in this restaurant.
註:pension (n.) 退休金
o. Take the elevator/lift
意為搭電梯,而“lift”是英式的用字,如:
Turn right at the end of the hallway and take the elevator to
the fifth floor.
若要表示使用樓梯,則說:“take the stairs”
p. Take it or leave it
意為「接受不然拉倒」,用於非正式情況,如:
I will only pay fifty-six dollars for each unit. So, take it or leave it!
q. Take measures
意為採取措施,通常用於描述公部門的行為,如:
The local government is taking measures to restore power supply
and relocate the victims.
註:relocate (v.) 安置
r. Take medicine/medications
意為服用藥物,兩個名詞皆為不可數,如:
The nurse asked her if she was taking any medications before drawing
blood samples.
註:draw (v.) 抽取
s. Take the minutes (Important!)
意為製作會議紀錄,當中的“minutes”除指時間外也可指「會議記
錄」,且字末需加“s”,如:
The meeting will start in an hour. Did you ask someone to take
the minutes?
t. Take notes
意為製作筆記,且字末需加“s”,如:
More and more college students are using laptops to take
notes in class.
u. Take order*
此時的“order”可指顧客選擇的餐點,意為記下客人的餐點,如:
Hi. May I take your order now?
此時的“order”也可指命令,為可數名詞,意為服從命令,如:
The young soldier refuses to take orders from the major.
v. Take someone to
意為帶某人前往某地方,如:
Mr. Chin took his granddaughter to the park to fly the kites.
w. Take step*
可指採取步驟,常用複數名詞“steps”,其後常加上不定詞(Infinitive)
表示目的,如:
We should take steps to stop the contamination from
spreading across the city.
註:contamination (n.) 感染
亦可指踏出步伐,此時“step”為可數名詞,如:
If the suspect takes one more step, the police officers will gun
him down.
註:gun down (v. phr.) 用槍擊倒
x. Take time
此時的“take”表示花費時間,也可替換為確切的時間長度,如:
It takes a long time to rebuild the area.
It takes me about thirty minutes to drive to work.
y. Take turns
意為輪流進行某事,其後常加上動名詞(Gerund),如:
The two of them took turns driving across the whole America in
eight days.
z. Take vows
意為宣誓,通常是指與個人有關的事務,如西式婚禮中新人的
宣誓,如:
Traditionally, the bride and the groom took their vows in front of their
family members and friends in the church.
