最近在一個知名的大陸網站上看文章，想多接觸一些不一樣的領域，發現了一個標題 "哈佛图书馆的20条经典校训" 的難句，天啊，真的是一個歷史悠久的學校才寫得出來的 "古老"英文啊! 大陸許多英語學習網站也都張貼了這篇文章喔。不過，事實上，再認真找找網站上相關的討論，一探究竟還真是讓人哭笑不得...

有人提出警告:

其实那“英文版”的英语非常烂。正是那些常令人喷饭不知所云的中式英语  "Chinglish." 你们不信，可把它那给你英语老师或真正懂得英语的人看看(只给英语版他看，叫他们不要译回中文，而只从英语来猜猜是说什么)，看他们看得懂不懂。你若是给老外看， 他们一定看得一头雾水

错误译成 This moment will nap, you will have a dream; But this moment study,you will interpret a dream.

中文 “你若此刻打盹”, “你”是主语 ，英文变了 “This moment" 是主语！) 软件是一个字一个字的译 (此刻"this moment)(打盹 will nap"), 软件不能悟出 “nap 打盹" 者是个人( "你")， 而不是个时间 "此刻"。"Interpret a dream" 不是圆梦. "Interpret a dream" 是“解梦”

英文可翻译成： If you take a nap now, you will dream, but if you study now, you will have your dreams coming true.

错误译成 Time the study pain is temporary, has not learned the pain is life-long.

"Time the study pain" 不只英语人士看不懂， 连中国人也看不懂。“学习时的苦痛” 是 "The suffering during studies is temporary."

" has not learned the pain is life-long. " 没有主语。"Temporary" 后的 comma 是错用(incorrect comma slice) 引至 run-on sentence (不间断句子。) Comma 应换为 period or semicolon. 用 comma 要加 conjunction.

英文可译成： The pain suffered during studies is only temporary, but what you failed to learn will be a pain for the rest of your life.

#15 中文原文： 今天不走，明天要跑。

错误译成  Today does not walk, will have to run tomorrow.

软件是一个字一个字的译 . 今天(today) 不走 (does not walk). 软件不能悟出"不走" 是个人 ("你")， 不是时间去走 (今天 toay.)

英文可译成： You will have to run tomorrow if you don't walk today. ("You " is the subject of the sentence. "You" are the one who is doing the walking. "Today" is not the one doing the walking.)
