WiFly Taipei
A ‘wireless city’ initiative launched by Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou in 1998 aimed to give Taiwan’s capital the lead in competition with Seoul, Hong Kong and other Asian cities. The project aims to provide Internet access to less well-off residents of the city and at the same time create a favorable business environment. The city has discovered, however, that simply putting equipment in place is no guarantee that people will use it, as most citizens already enjoy Internet access at work or at home.
