Sprucing Up the City - Six Good Impressions of a New Taipei

台北市政府為給市民不一樣的感受，將推出「台北好印象」計畫，預計在下半年完成，包括貓空纜車營運通車、公館新世界親水及藝文活動、故宮周邊整體意象營造、登山步道環境改善與導覽服務增設、加強捷運站照明、車行隧道照明及壁面美化等6大項目，讓市民體驗更好、更美的台北城。

In an initiative to give citizens something new to enjoy, the Taipei City Government has launched a ‘Good Impressions’ project that aims to make the city a more attractive one that offers a better quality of experience for all. Slated for completion during the latter half of this year, the project includes the opening of the Maokong Cableway, new water-based and cultural activities at Gongguan’s New World site, a thorough makeover of the areas surrounding the National Palace Museum, improvements to the city’s network of hiking trails and directional services on these, better lighting around MRT stations, and new lighting in traffic tunnels as well, along with upgrades to the tunnel walls.

第一個實現的就是將在6月30日通車的貓空纜車。市長郝龍斌表示，纜車不僅解決當地居民及遊客的交通問題，更減少噪音、空氣污染。為了慶祝貓纜通車，捷運公司也將舉辦「貓空纜車音樂會」、「七夕浪漫貓空活動」及「中秋團圓到貓空活動」等活動。

The Maokong Cableway will be the first of the six items to be brought to completion with its opening on June 30th. According to city Mayor Hao Longbin, the new gondola service will not only resolve traffic problems for residents and visitors but will also go a long way towards cutting noise and atmospheric pollution in the mountainous area. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation will be celebrating the launch of the new service over the next few months with the Maokong Music Festival on July 20^th, the Nights of Romance running around Chinese Valentine Day August 1^st through 19^th, and a Moon Festival event on September 25^th.

另外，為了塑造故宮的整體景觀意象，市府除了改善周邊交通外，還要將自強隧道照明美化，選定故宮典藏文物妝點隧道拱頂，並於隧道出入口設置地標藝術，透過植栽讓自強隧道脫胎換骨，預計12月完工。

Meanwhile, as part of its efforts to revamp the whole area around the National Palace Museum, the City is upgrading traffic facilities near the site and improving lighting in the Ziqiang Tunnel. The tunnel’s vault is also to be adorned with artwork inspired by the Museum’s collections, while installation art and new greenery at either entrance will contribute to an attractive and most welcome makeover for the traffic artery. Work is scheduled for completion in December.
