１９９９年年９月１５日，日本演藝巨星中山美穗推出第２１張大碟manifesto／宣言］和第３９首單曲［Adore］（King Records出版）後，
決定暫停音樂事業，將重心放在演戲．
之後只發行數位下載限定單曲，不再出全新題材的實體CD．
２０００年７月７日，３０歲的中山推出首支數位下載限定單曲［STARDUST／星塵］
這是翻唱英語爵士標準經典
Hoagy Carmichael１９２７年作曲，Mitchell Parish１９２８年作詞，
１９２８年Don Redman最先灌錄，至２０２５年，［STARDUST］已被錄製超過１５００次．
中山版［STARDUST］被製作成一首爵士／抒情曲，
編曲簡單，由鋼琴主導，美穗以呢喃的嗓音娓娓詮釋這首經典名曲．
不過中山的英語發音有點難懂，加上彷彿在低語，筆者初次聆聽時，竟然搞不清她唱的是英語還是日語．
撇開這點，自２０００年後，中山的數位音樂作品明顯帶有強烈實驗性，商業性漸淡，顯示出她的音樂喜好品味．
