The Hare and the Tortoise  龜兔賽跑

Aesop’s Fables
The Brothers Grimm            → Folklore
Hans Christian Andersen

※Aesop’s fables:
1. An ass eating thistle: Beginning as a condemnation of miserly behaviour, it eventually was taken to demonstrate how preferences differ.
2. The ass carrying salt → 自作自受
3. The fox without a tail → 禍不單行

※Mother Goose
1. What did Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater have?
Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had a wife but couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.
Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had another and didn't love her;
Peter learned to read and spell,
And then he loved her very well.

2. What did Mary have?
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

It followed her to school one day,
Which was against the rule;
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear.

Why does the lamb love Mary so?
The eager children cry;
Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,
The teacher did reply.

3. What did Peter Piper pick?
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers that Peter Piper picked?

4. Jack and Jill went up the hill?
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

5. Old woman live in the shoe
There was an old woman
who lived in a shoe,
She had so many children
she didn't know what to do;

She gave them some broth
without any bread;
She whipped them all soundly
and put them to bed.

6. Little Bo beep
Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,
And doesn't know where to find them;
Leave them alone, And they'll come home,
Wagging their tails behind them

7. George Porgy
Georgie Porgie, Puddin' and Pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play
Georgie Porgie ran away.
