Once upon a time in a village in India, a man announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10.

從前在印度有一個村莊，有一個人向所有村民宣佈-他要用每隻10元的價格買猴子。

The villagers seeing there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.

這些村民看到附近到處都是猴子，所以這些村民就跑到樹林裡開始捉猴子。

The man bought thousands at $10, but, as the supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their efforts. The man further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

這個人用每隻10元的價格買了成千的猴子，但是當供給(猴子)開始減少時，村民就停止補猴。這個人緊接著又宣佈-他要用20元的價格買猴子，這個新價格又引發村民開始去補猴。

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

不久，供給(猴子)比以前減少的速度更快，而人們開始又回到他們的農地去耕種。這個人又將猴子的單價提高到25元，但是猴子的數量實在太少，即便村民再努力也看很難看到一隻猴子，更遑論要補猴。

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now act as buyer, on his behalf.

現在，這個人又宣佈他要用50元的價格買猴子，然而，因為這個人必須到城裡去處理一些業務，所以改由他的助理代理他來擔任買家。 

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: 'Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when he returns from the city, you can sell them back to him for $50.'

當這個人不在村子的期間，他的助理告訴村民-「你們看看這些之前被收購在籠子裡面的猴子，當我老闆從城裡回來後，我將用每隻35元的價格賣給你們，你們可以用每隻50元反賣給我老闆。」

The villagers squeezed together their savings and bought all the monkeys.

這些村民努力擠出他們所有的儲蓄並買下所有的猴子。

Then they never saw the man or his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!

再來，這些村民再也看不到這個人和他的助理，只剩下滿山遍野的猴子。
