Two Chinese Taipei's players won the gold medal of men's double in World Cup of Table Tennis yesterday. People in the island got excited, and the news became such a hoopla that all of the major press media ran it under sensational headlines on their front page. The good news temporarily made islanders compensated from the depression caused by the setback in Taiwan-Philipines fishing dispute.

I don't intend to be a wet blanket, but I must point out the victory doesn't mean the duo is the number one combination of men's double in the world. No, they just won a world title, that's all. If you are a fan in world sports, you should clearly know that Mainland China's players that the duo beat in semi-final and final are either passe or green. I dare say China didn't send out any of her top five combinations to the tournament. If she did, our player would hardly stand a chance.

You know, IOC(International Olympic Committee) is now planning to downsize the item of summer Olympic games. Table Tennis is one of the endangered items due to its lack of popularity as well as diversity. Mainland China used to monopolize the game by enveloping almost all the gold and silver medals in the major tournaments. Now she has to "share" some of medals with other participants lest IOC should axe at Table Tennis. Therefore, it wouldn't suprise me if Mainland China intentionally conceded some items to others this time.(Her mixed double already lost to North Korea earlier.) Will she give her singles away to others? Absolutely not. As usually, she enveloped all golds and silvers both in men's and women's single.

So let's say congratuations to our players rather than give them ecstatic praise.
