"Growing Pains", a TV episode in the late 80s and early 90s, received great ratings both in the US and in the Chinese Mainland with Mandarin dubbing. (I am not sure if it had been televised in Taiwan.)
In addition to its storylines, Growing Pains intentionally, or unintentionally, displayed a well-being life of an American middle-class family, which was widely admired by the then relatively poor and backward Chinese counterparts. Not anymore. Please see the following report.
BTW, people usually think military prowess and a financial powerhouse are the two mainstays that make a US hegemony. But they neglect the invisibility of US cultural invasion, or agitprop.
