Some evening in June 1953 my parents took us to Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong, to watch fireworks, celebrating the accession and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Several weeks later, my families (including the new-born baby youngest brother) moved to Taiwan and restored our status as the citizens of ROC.
We fled to HK and stayed three for three years after civil war. As refugees then, we did not have the legal status of being HK residents. Therefore, I am fortunate for never being one of the "subjects" of Her Majesty, who passed away yesterday at 96, throughout a long tenure of 70 years. (She may be the longest monarchy on the throne in history, though a titular one.)
Her long "reign" had witnessed an once great empire from prosperity to decline. May her RIP and dream a pipe dream of Great Britain great again.
PS China Mainland and Hong Kong SAR, someday, somehow you MUST give a new Chinese name to replace that colonized Vitoria Harbor!
