Wine Order
When dining in a restaurant, we usually order wine to match with our foods.
To order wine, we can check the section of beverages in the menu, and different
types of wine can be found under the category of alcohol or in the wine list. To
ask for advice on the choice of wine, we consult the server or the sommelier of
the restaurant. It is also customary to order some aperitifs before ordering the
meal. Here is a list of some common types of alcoholic drinks:
1. Red wine
2. White wine
3. Champagne
4. Whisky or Scotch
5. Brandy
6. Martini
Attention! Wine and drinks are mostly uncountable nouns. So it is incorrect
to say “two Bordeaux wine.” Instead, we should say “two bottles/glasses of
Bordeaux wine.”
Sometimes we order drinks at a bar, a pub, or a bistro. We can have
nonalcoholic drinks such as soda, fruit cocktail, or root beer, and we
can enjoy alcoholic drinks or even liquors. Do you recognize any of these
and can you tell what they are made from?
1. Gin: Juniper Berry
2. Ale: Malt
3. Beer or light beer: Wheat
4. Cocktail: mixture of at least one kind of alcohol
5. Tequila: Agave
6. Rum: Sugarcane
7. Bourbon Whiskey: Corn
8. Vodka: Grains or potatoes
