雖然銷售大賣，卻受到評論家與某些粉絲惡評．

而提前一天推出的第五張個人大碟［Erotica／情慾］（Maverick/Sire/WarnerBros.發行）

由瑪丹娜，Shep Pettibone，André Betts製作

因為題材太過前衛, 探討性, 愛滋病與死亡, 題材太過沉重陰暗,

讓習慣其輕快舞曲的大批歌迷一時無法接受．

 

雖然業界普遍好評，但商業反應卻不如預期．

［Erotica］登上美國Billboard專輯榜亞軍（1993年度#61），只賣出兩百多萬張（２白金唱片），為當時瑪丹娜事業新低．

１９９３年７月，瑪丹娜推出大碟第五首國際單曲／第四首美國單曲［Rain／雨］，

由瑪丹娜，Shep Pettibone創作，歌詞將水和雨水比作愛的力量。

瑪丹娜＋Shep Pettibone製作成一首流行抒情曲，編曲融入新世紀音樂（New-age music）氛圍．

旋律悅耳，節奏穩定，瑪丹娜的詮釋溫柔感性．

 

評論界對［Rain］的評價普遍正面。評論家認為它是［Erotica］專輯中的佼佼者，也是瑪丹娜迄今為止發行的最佳抒情歌曲之一。

《告示牌》的Larry Flick稱其“華麗……儘管歌詞不如[上一首單曲]［Bad Girl］大膽，但［Rain］是一首構思精妙的歌曲”。

《獨立報》的Giles Smith稱這首歌「在［Erotica］中，最接近瑪丹娜的［Like a Prayer］風格，是一首宏大而莊嚴的情歌」。

《偶像》雜誌的Stephen Sears認為，這是［Erotica］專輯中“唯一表達純潔愛情的歌曲……一首令人心醉神迷的浪漫歌曲”，它“重現”1986年［Live to Tell

中“海洋般壯闊的音景”。

在回顧評論，［Rain］曾被《告示牌》、《Parade》、《The Backlot》、《The A.V. Club》和《PinkNews》評為瑪丹娜最優秀的歌曲之一。

 

 

MV由Mark Romanek克執導，麥當娜在日本攝製組面前演唱，藝人坂本龍一在影片中飾演導演角色（以前曾將坂本誤認為導演）。

該MV榮獲MTV音樂錄影帶大獎最佳藝術指導和最佳攝影獎。
