１９５１年１月３０日生於倫敦西奇客的菲爾柯林斯（Phil Collins）是英國歌壇流行／搖滾天王，

自１９７０年參加‘創世紀’（Genesis）樂團，負責合音與鼓手．

數年菲爾跟主唱彼德蓋布爾（Peter Gabriel）互爭鋒頭，蓋布爾有感自己在樂團的優勢被慢慢蓋過，

１９７５年退團，由柯林斯接替主唱位置． 

１９８１年發行首張個人大碟［Face Value／面值］（英國Virgin唱片; 國際地區Atlantic唱片推出）

由他和Hugh Padgham共同製作，因其鼓點編排和門限混響的運用而聞名，獲得廣泛好評．

１９７９年，柯林斯的第一任妻子提出離婚後，他開始在創世紀樂團的休息期間創作歌曲，其中大部分內容都與他的個人生活有關。

 

首支主打是［In the Air Tonight／今晚在空中］

由菲爾和Hugh Padgham創作，在2016年的一次採訪中，柯林斯談到歌詞時說：「歌詞是我即興創作的。我不太清楚這首歌想表達什麼，但裡面充滿了憤怒、絕望和沮喪。」
