１９９３年，美國歌壇巨星王子（Prince）與所屬唱片公司華納公開反抗．

因為他們拒絕發行其灌錄好的許多作品，限制其藝術創作自由．

同年王子並將名字改成一個結合男女，但無法發音的符號‘The Love Symbol’．

為了趕緊完成合約恢復自由身, 王子加緊速度創作製作許多歌曲，以便讓華納發行專輯．

１９９６年７月，３８歲的王子推出的第１８張錄音室大碟［Chaos and Disorder／混沌與無序］

由王子獨力譜寫與製作．

王子正在華納兄弟合約作鬥爭，極少宣傳這張專輯，發行［Chaos and Disorder］只是為了履行合約義務。

套筒上鑲嵌著訊息：「原本僅供個人使用，此合集作為（愛情符號）為華納兄弟唱片錄製的最後一個原始材料 - 願你活著看到黎明」。
