紀曉嵐的風趣機智：
《剃頭店聯》
紀曉嵐和劉墉等幾位文友聚會，劉墉說他幫一家剃頭店寫了『整容堂』三字，但卻一時還沒有想出上好的對聯，紀曉嵐立刻對上：
“雖然毫髮技藝，卻是頂上功夫。”
此時，又一人說道：
「我也有一聯，雖不如紀兄之聯工巧，但作為剃頭店的門聯來用，卻也使得。」
“不教白髮催人老，更喜春風滿面生。”
紀曉嵐一聽，也再道上一聯：
“到來儘是彈冠客，此去應無搔首人。”
《對對子（東西當鋪當東西）》
有一年，乾隆皇帝南巡，來到了江蘇。
這一天，他路過通州，忽然想起了在北京城附近也有個地方叫通州，立刻想到個上聯：
「南通州、北通州，南北通州通南北」
這個上聯用“南”、“北”、”通”、“州”四個字重複組成，十分巧妙。
大臣們聽了面面相覷，絞盡腦汁也對不上合適的下聯。
這時，紀曉嵐一眼看到街頭上掛著“當”字的當鋪大招牌，立馬回道：
「東當鋪、西當鋪，東西當鋪當東西」
東西對南北，同樣只用“東”、“西”、“當”、“鋪”四個字。
