1. billow
Definition: WAVE; especially: a great wave or surge of water
Example: Billows of smoke poured out of the burning building.
2.  negligible
Definition: so small or unimportant or of so little consequence as to warrant little or no attention
Example: A negligible amount of damage was done to the vehicle.
3. bawl
Definition: to cry out loudly and unrestrainedly
Example: “Get in the car!” he bawled.
4. despoil
Definition: to strip of belongings, possessions, or value
Example: The landscape has been despoiled by industrial development.
5. strife
Definition: bitter sometimes violent conflict or dissension
Example: in order to avoid family strife, the children spend equal time during the holidays with both of their grandmothers
6. moan
Definition: a low prolonged sound of pain or of grief
Example: She let out a long, deep moan.
7. expedition
Definition: a journey or excursion undertaken for a specific purpose
Example: a scientific expedition to Antarctica
8. decency
Definition: the quality or state of being decent
Example: Decency, not fear of punishment, caused them to do the right thing.
9. contingent
Definition: likely but not certain to happen
Example: The isolation and co-optation of the capitalist classes in Germany meant that liberty as an ideal had no contingent link with capitalism, as had happened in Western Europe.

Example: They placed a garland of flowers around her neck.

Definition: archaic: to pay off (as a claim or debt)
Example: The jury acquitted the defendant because there wasn't enough evidence to convict him of the crime.

Definition: to violate a command or law
Example: He who transgresses must seek forgiveness.
21. retrospectively
Definition: of, relating to, or given to retrospection
Example: They issued a retrospective report.
22. integrity
Definition: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values
Example: He's a man of the highest integrity.
23. appropriation
Definition: an act or instance of appropriating
Example: the appropriation of funds to repair the bridge
24. taming
Definition: reduced from a state of native wildness especially so as to be tractable and useful to humans
Example: The island's birds are quite tame.
25. validate
Definition: to make legally valid
Example: The court validated the contract.
