黏巴達起源於巴西，但把黏巴達帶上世界舞台的是法國人 Olivier Lamotte d'Incamps 。他在 1989 年左右成立了 Kaoma 樂團，購買了 300 多首黏巴達歌曲的版權，並在歐州巡迴演出，才真正的把黏巴達炒熱起來。
黏巴達的舞步很奇特，舞步是左右移動，身体是貼在一起。女的穿著極短的裙子，男的是穿著長褲 。 巴西是葡萄牙的殖民地 (1500 a.c. till 1822 a.c.) ，影片中葡萄牙語的 Lambada 歌名叫 Chorando se foi (Crying he/she went away) 。
