THE STORY

After a violent typhoon destroys his fishing boat, young Dong-Ping survives alone on Guishan Island, living in a cave and teaching himself how to fish, build tools, and survive from the resources of the island. His fate changes when he rescues an injured young bottlenose dolphin named Lele.

To Dong-Ping's astonishment, Lele can speak to him—and reveals that Dong-Ping possesses a rare, natural ability to communicate with dolphins.

The dolphin becomes his first true friend.

When Dong-Ping eventually reaches the opposite shore, he encounters Yun-Hua and her brother Guang-Nan, members of the Bashia community of the Ketagalan people. Dong-Ping is welcomed into their village, where he discovers a human world as dangerous and complicated as the sea he has survived.

Pirates have seized the community's traditional fishing grounds and demand an enormous annual tribute. Dong-Ping secretly reveals the weapons he discovered on Guishan Island, giving the community the means to fight back.

With the dolphins' help, Dong-Ping and the indigenous warriors launch a daring night assault and defeat the pirates.

But victory creates a greater danger.

The hidden cache also contains a vast quantity of gold—treasure originally belonging to a Dutch trading expedition. When a Dutch naval force arrives searching for the missing treasure, Dong-Ping becomes caught between powerful forces determined to possess it.

Meanwhile, the friendship between Dong-Ping and Guang-Nan becomes strained by greed and suspicion, while Yun-Hua gradually falls in love with the young fisherman whose greatest strength is not wealth or power, but his refusal to be corrupted by either.

At the heart of the story lies a simple moral choice:

2. LOGLINE

After a teenage fisherman survives a shipwreck and is stranded on a remote Taiwanese island, he discovers a fortune in hidden gold and learns that he can communicate with dolphins. When pirates threaten an indigenous community and a Dutch naval force arrives to reclaim the treasure, the boy must decide whether wealth is worth sacrificing friendship, love, freedom, and his own moral integrity.

3. STORY SYNOPSIS

Four hundred years ago, a violent typhoon drives young Dong-Ping and his uncle toward Guishan Island. Their fishing boat is wrecked against the island's reefs. Dong-Ping survives, but his uncle is swept away by the waves.

Alone on the island, Dong-Ping learns to survive using whatever nature provides. He builds fishing tools from the wreckage of the boat, collects shellfish and turtle eggs, gathers coconuts, and lives in a natural cave.

While exploring the island, he discovers a hidden cave containing weapons, ammunition, and ten large wooden chests filled with gold bars. He realizes that the treasure must have been hidden there many years earlier, but he chooses not to touch it.

His life changes when a young bottlenose dolphin is washed ashore after the storm.

Dong-Ping rescues the dolphin, Lele, and discovers something extraordinary: he can communicate with dolphins.

Lele becomes his companion and guide. Through the dolphin, Dong-Ping gains access to a world beneath the surface of human society—a world in which dolphins observe human behavior, understand danger, and question why human beings constantly fight over territory and wealth.

Eventually Dong-Ping travels to the opposite shore, where he meets Guang-Nan and Yun-Hua, two young members of the Bashia community of the Ketagalan people.

Dong-Ping is welcomed into their village, but he soon learns that the community faces a serious threat. Pirates have occupied their traditional fishing grounds around Keelung Islet and are demanding an enormous annual tribute.

Dong-Ping reveals the existence of the hidden weapons on Guishan Island.

With the cooperation of the indigenous communities and the dolphins, he helps organize a surprise night operation. The operation succeeds, the pirates are defeated, and the community regains control of its fishing grounds.

But the victory comes at a terrible emotional cost.

During the battle, Lele sacrifices herself to save Dong-Ping from fleeing pirates. Dong-Ping is devastated by the death of his closest friend.

Lele's younger sister, Huan-Huan, later comes to accompany him, allowing Dong-Ping to continue his extraordinary relationship with the dolphin family.

The story then takes a darker turn.

Huan-Huan warns Dong-Ping that a Dutch naval force is approaching Guishan Island. The Dutch have come searching for a long-lost cache of weapons and valuables believed to have been left on the island decades earlier.

Dong-Ping realizes that the gold he discovered is the treasure they are seeking.

The Dutch demand its return.

At the same time, A-Ya-La-Ti, Yun-Hua's father and a community leader, becomes increasingly interested in the treasure. While he initially welcomes Dong-Ping as a member of the community, his motives gradually become entangled with his desire to obtain the gold.

Dong-Ping finds himself trapped between competing claims to the treasure.

The Dutch possess military power.

The indigenous communities possess the land.

A-Ya-La-Ti possesses political ambition.

And Dong-Ping alone knows where the treasure is hidden.

Yet Dong-Ping does not want the gold.

He understands that wealth has already begun to destroy relationships around him.

His friendship with Guang-Nan is threatened. His trust in A-Ya-La-Ti begins to collapse. And Yun-Hua must confront the painful realization that the people she loves are capable of greed.

Eventually, Dong-Ping reveals the truth to Yun-Hua.

Rather than claiming the treasure, he tells her that he would rather leave it hidden forever than allow it to turn him into a fugitive consumed by fear and greed.

Yun-Hua finally understands the man he has become.

She confesses that she has fallen genuinely in love with him—not because of the treasure, but because of his honesty, courage, humility, and sense of justice.

Their relationship transforms the treasure from an object of desire into a moral test.

The story therefore becomes more than an adventure about gold.

It becomes the coming-of-age story of a boy who discovers that the greatest treasure is not something buried beneath the sea, but the people one chooses to protect and the principles one refuses to betray.

二、一句話故事概念

三、故事大綱

四百多年前，一場猛烈颱風將少年東平與叔叔駕駛的漁船吹向龜山島。漁船撞上礁石，叔叔為了救東平而被巨浪捲走，東平則孤身活了下來。

獨自留在荒島上的東平，只能依靠島上的自然資源求生。他利用漁船殘骸製作工具，捕魚、撿拾貝類、採摘椰子，並住在天然岩洞裡。

一次探索荒島時，他發現一座隱密山洞，裡面竟然藏著大量武器、火藥與十箱黃金。

東平知道這些財物已經存在很多年，卻沒有將它們據為己有。

不久後，一隻受傷的小瓶鼻海豚因颱風擱淺在海灘。

東平救了牠。

更不可思議的是，他發現自己竟然能夠與海豚溝通。

這隻名叫樂樂的海豚成為東平第一個真正的朋友，也帶領他進入一個人類看不見的海洋世界。

最後，東平來到對岸，遇見凱達格蘭族巴夏群的少年光男與少女雲花。

陳清揚為台灣小說家、詩人、文學研究者、文學評論家與編劇，創作領域涵蓋小說、新詩、修辭學、文學評論、電影與電視劇本。

其創作經常將故事敘事、視覺想像、文化歷史、象徵意象與電影式結構結合。

《海豚少年》則進一步將台灣歷史與海洋文化轉化為具有國際跨文化閱讀可能性的冒險故事。

九、創作理念

《海豚少年》的故事源自作者家族口述傳說，以及台灣早期海洋歷史的想像。

作者希望藉由一名少年、一群海豚、一座島嶼與一批黃金，將台灣較少被國際讀者看見的歷史與文化帶入世界閱讀市場。

但小說真正關心的並不是黃金本身。

它真正想問的是：

當世界把權力、財富與佔有慾放到我們面前時，我們究竟願意拒絕什麼，才能保住自己的人性？
