Cellist Kitchen - a restaurant which helped me find my old friends

I was watching TV with my family when that phone call came in that night.
My son went to answer it and he implied by looking at me that
it was for me. I was so surprised when I heard, " This is Herbert Lin.
May I speak to Robert ? " On that second, I knew he and I, we are finally
back in touch again.

Herbert is a very special friend of mine.
We've lost connection for more than ten years.
The reason why I got in touch with him again is another story
I'm about to tell you.

About two years ago, a new restaurant named Cellist Kitchen
opened near my neighborhood.
As the name implied, it's  a restaurant owned and operated by some chef
who likes to play the cello .
Through its windows you can see a piano on the first floor
, three cellos on the wall, and lots of books on one of the tables.
Most of all, it gave a sense of delicate touch.

When I first saw the restaurant, it reminded me of my friend, Herbert Lin,
and some of his friends who often played the piano and the cellos together.

I've always so admired people who know how to play the piano
that I encouraged two of my  kids to learn playing the piano, too.
For that reason, I stepped into that restaurant
and tried to look for a treasured memory
which I had with Herbert Lin and those friends.
I also chatted with a friendly lady who seemed to be
a senior manager of the restaurant.
I even asked her to let my kids play the piano in the restaurant.
That was my first impression of the restaurant.

In the end of April, my wife suggested we went to that restaurant agian
to celebrate her birthday.
That was the second time we went there.
When we got in, the waitress told us to wait to be seated.
We were  soon  brought to the second floor when there were seats available.

A familiar voice came to me as soon as we got on the second floor.
It was the waiter, who was explaining to me that the seats
beside the windows have all been taken
and he asked if we would just sit somewhere next to the tables
that enjoyed the best view.
I was so surprised to find the waiter serving us was one of those friends
who used to play the piano and the cellos with Herbert Lin.
He is a tall and elegant man with a gentle voice. And his  name is Gus Han.

Gus recognized me right after my surprising cry out.
Later I knew he owned the restaurant and we talked a lot
about what we've done during these years.

I got Herbert's E-mail and Gus insisted that night's meal to be his treat.
He even opened a bottle of Chardonney for this
unexpected surprising reunion.
A few days later, I got the call from Herbert Lin.
He's now pursing his Phd. degree in the USA.
And he's also a cello maker.

I'm so proud to have friends like Herbert and Gus.
I believe they are both men with vision,
who have worked really hard for their dreams.

Above you can see the picture of the restaurant - Cellist Kitchen.
It's just on 興大路, near from nchu 中興大學, Taichung.
Maybe you want to visit Gus Han sometimes if you happen to be
in the neighborhood and you're interested in food, wine, and Cellos.

Haha
I am learning how to play the piano now. But I am a very very lazy student. However, I just enjoy myself placing my hands on the keyboards (with black and white) from right to left, gentlely and gracefully, up and down, and absorb myself in the melodies of music and the easy and relaxing atmosphere the sound of music creates. I think that is a kind of fantastic trip between music and my inner voice. I even can hear the interesting dialog between us.

good ! !

I also want to learn how to play the  piano.

But it cost me too much.

p.s  I  like the story, and your English is good.

Thanks for stopping by.

Your comment is well appreciated.

I've always told my daughter and son that learning to enjoy playing or appreciating

the sound of the piano maybe worth more than one million dollars.

If we don't play the piano, at least we can learn to appreciate it, can't we ?

Best regard,

Robert
