小腸經經脈主治頭、頸項、耳、目、咽喉、熱病、「神志病」、本經失調時、臉頰水腫、耳聾、目黃、肩、臂外側腫痛、流鼻血、胸、膝部疼痛，顯示小腸經脈出問體。「神志病」，包括憂鬱症、躁鬱症、妄想症、失眠、神經衰弱等症狀在內。「Neurosis 神經官能症」。

（1）本經在十大天干中，以"丙"字代之。
（2）五行中屬陽火，起：少澤穴，終：聽宮穴。
（3）多血少氣，未時（當地時間下午01;00 P.M.時~03;00 P.M. 時），氣血注此。
（4）凡十九穴，左右共三十八穴。
（5）小腸經穴歌：
手太陽穴一十九，少澤前谷後谿藪，
腕骨陽谷養老繩，支正小海外輔肘，
肩貞臑俞接天宗，聊外秉風曲桓首，
肩外俞連肩中俞，天窗乃與天容偶，
銳骨之端上顴髎，聽宮耳前珠上走。
