In order to prevent the Japanese army from moving further afield, Nationalist China under the Chiang regime purposefully breached a portion of the Yellow River levee in the middle of 1938. However, the "endeavor" was unsuccessful, and the true casualties were thousands of impoverished Chinese farmers who lost their houses and farmlands and were largely killed by the flood. The Chinese people can no longer endure to reflect on this occurrence because it has become such a humiliation!
