In 1949 two barely "national" airlines defected to CCP from Hong Kong.  Though a bundle of aircraft of China National Aviation Corporation later moved to CAT(Civil Aviation Transport) in Taiwan thru complicated channels, Taiwan under KMT hadn't owned itself a "national" carrier until China Airlines was founded in 1959.  Attached below is a brief story concerning the so-called “兩航起義” at:
