The gear reducer achieves a speed reduction and a torque increase between the input shaft and the output shaft of the motor through the meshing of gears of different sizes. DC gear motors are usually used in transmission equipment that requires low speed and high torque, such as automated mechanical equipment. The purpose of deceleration is achieved by transmitting the motor or other high-speed transmission equipment to the gear of the output shaft through the reducer.

3.Speed ​​regulation method of DC gear motor

‌1.Changing the excitation current: By adjusting the size of the excitation current, the magnetic flux inside the motor can be changed, thereby affecting the speed of the motor. Reducing the excitation current can reduce the magnetic flux, thereby increasing the speed of the motor. The advantages of this method are simplicity and low loss, and convenient control, which can achieve smooth speed regulation. However, it should be noted that the mechanical characteristics of the motor will become softer during weak magnetic speed regulation. If the load torque is still the rated value when the speed increases, the motor may be in an overloaded state, so the load torque should be appropriately reduced to maintain constant power speed regulation operation.

2.Change the armature voltage: By adjusting the voltage across the armature, the speed of the motor can be directly controlled. Reducing the armature voltage will cause the motor speed to decrease, while increasing the armature voltage will increase the motor speed. This method can achieve stepless speed regulation with a wide speed regulation range, and the hardness of the mechanical characteristics after speed regulation can remain unchanged. However, this method requires a set of dedicated DC power supply or DC voltage regulator, which is expensive.

3.Change the resistance in the armature circuit: The motor speed is adjusted by connecting a resistor in series or in parallel in the armature circuit. Adding additional resistance in the armature circuit can reduce the speed. This method is simple and the original system is not changed much, which is suitable for situations where power needs to be reduced. However, this method has high requirements for speed regulation accuracy and is not suitable for occasions with large load changes.
