到底養狗比較好還是養貓比較好？根據英國一項最新的研究發現，養狗的主人通常比養貓的主人還要健康！

So which in fact makes the better pet - a dog or a cat? Well, according to a recent study conducted in the UK, dog-owners generally enjoy better health than do cat-owners.

這項調查研究發現，家裏有養狗的主人通常血壓和膽固醇都比較低。研究者說，主人藉著遛狗，就能增加運動量，有助於減輕壓力，以這個角度來看，養狗比養貓的確可以讓人比較健康快樂。

The study found that people with a pet dog at home generally have lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol counts. One of the researchers observed that dog-owners get more exercise through having to take the animal for walks, which helps reduce stress, and from this perspective, having a dog can certainly make people healthier and happier than having a cat.

而且狗狗多半天性喜歡親近人，也有研究說，透過這樣和狗的接觸，能夠幫助重症病人，尤其是老人和兒童得到正面的力量，可以鼓勵他們繼續接受治療。

Most dogs, moreover, by nature enjoy being with people, and another researcher noted that contact with dogs can in fact be helpful to persons afflicted with serious illnesses. Children and the elderly in particular seem to derive positive strength from this contact, which can encourage them to continue their treatments.

另外在英美也都有研究證實，狗狗還可以聞出異常的肉瘤，甚至是尿液中的癌細胞，所以狗不但是人類的好朋友，更是讓主人健康的好幫手。

Other studies in the UK and the USA also demonstrate that dogs can ‘sniff out’ unusual tumors, or even cancer cell in urine. So not only are dogs man's best friends, they can also be of great help in keeping their masters healthy.
