Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu TBSky News Report On the first evening His Holiness Living Buddha Lian-Sheng Sheng-Yen Lu was back in Seattle, 2 big rainbows appeared in the sky. Spectacular and beautiful, they symbolized the joyous celebration by the human & celestial beings at the return of Grand Master.

As per the past, at Lei Zang Si Temple, Grand Master led all the disciples in the circumambulation of the Buddha statues and boxing practice. Subsequently, everyone listened to the many jokes told by Grand Master, with resounding laughter. It was a joyous occasion for all to be able to gather under the same roof.

In front of True Buddha Tantric Quarter, Grand Master benevolently answered the queries from the disciples. Key points are as follow:

  1. A disciple beseeched Grand Master to set the number of practice sessions he should do daily. Grand Master replied, "The reverends have to conduct 4 practices daily. The lay disciples can conduct 1-2 practices. The root Guru will not dictate the number of practice sessions for the disciples, as they have their personal work and time. The disciple himself should gauge and allocate for cultivation, but the key is the time for cultivation should not affect one's life.”
  2. Grand Master said that everyone must understand and know the nature of impermanence. One might not wake up tomorrow upon sleeping. Or maybe, your legs are unable to move upon waking up. Grand Master hoped to travel around in the future and not to wait till impermanence enroached and his body is too weak for travelling. Grand Master joked that one of the happiest things was to die after spending all the money. The saddest thing would be to die with the money still unspent. It would also be a very sad thing to use up all the money and yet, still be alive.
  3. Grand Master reminded everybody again of a previous Dharma discourse given: Upon death, nothing can be packed up. You cannot pack up money, the house, children, grandchildren and also the disciples. Grand Master joked that now He is the one who is being packed up by the disciples, and not Him packing up the disciples.

Disciples must remember to pack up the 3 Roots - Guru, Principal Deity (Yidam) and Dharma Protector upon death. Their names must be remembered. In the bardo state, when one sees the Principal Deity, one must remember He is your Principal Deity. Swift deliverance to the Deity's Pureland would then be possible.
