１９９５年末／１９９６年，美國黑人歌手崔西查普曼（Tracy Chapman）以第四張大碟［New Beginning］與單［Give Me One Reason］再登事業高峰．

２０００年２月，將滿３６歲的崔西推出相隔四年多的第五張專輯［Telling Stories／說故事］（Elektra唱片發行），

由查普曼與老夥伴David Kershenbaum製作，評價良好．

 

《AllMusic》稱：如標題所示，［Telling Stories］傾向於敘事，但不一定是傳統意義上的敘事。

沒有故事歌曲，就像［Fast Car］是一個故事。

相反，它們是情感的、詩意的快照——有點像音樂上的密集、印象派短篇小說。

查普曼在《講故事》中的歌曲可能不像Raymond Carver的作品那樣充滿細節，但他們確實有一種創造印象派歌詞的方式，讓簡短的台詞變得意義重大。
