１９８７年８月２５日，２２歲的日本歌壇女皇中森明菜發行第十張大碟［Cross My Palm／算命］（Warner Music Japan）

這是明菜唯一的英語專輯。

大碟由歐美音樂人包辦詞曲, 編曲, 製作, 選在紐約錄音。

製作群包括David Batteau, Tony Humecke, Roger Daltrey, Julia Downes and Sandy Stewart

曲風相當歐美化──除了中森明菜的英語發音, 在英美人士耳中聽來可能怪腔怪調。

 

明菜說, 這張大碟花了三個月錄音, 比其它專輯長, 因為歌曲全是英語,

對她來說, 發音有不少困難要克服。

撇開發音, 基本上這是張製作精良的大碟, 歌曲動聽, 明菜在灌錄歌曲時, 以比平常高的Key演繹, 呈現跟以前中低音不同的風情。

 

華納並從１２首歌曲中揀選８首, 拍成［Cross My Palm］影碟。

明菜飾演一名前往美國追求音樂夢想的歌手, 最後達到目標。

儘管製作團隊為日本人, 影片攝影頗有歐美風格。

影片在１９８７年的AVA數位內容大獎賽上獲獎。

 

另要也發行寫真書『中森明菜写真集 VISUAL BOOK Cross My Palm』。

雖說這是英文大碟, 基本仍是瞄準日本市場。

 

 

［Cross My Palm］再度讓中森登上Oricon專輯榜冠軍, 榜上銷售３４.８萬張, 明列１９８７年暢銷專輯＃１９。

 

 

 

［MODERN WOMAN (FEMME D AUJOURD HUI)／現代女性(當今女性)］是宣傳單曲之一，

這是翻唱法國／西班牙裔歌手珍妮瑪絲（Jeanne Mas）１９８６年的歌曲［Femme daujourdhui／當今的女人］

由Romano Musumarra, Roberto Zaneli作曲，珍妮瑪絲作詞，

明菜演唱的是英語版，由Linda Hennrick改寫英文歌詞．

被製作成一首成人流行抒情曲，在穩定的節奏中，中森以呢喃似的嗓音輕柔演繹，浪漫迷人．

只是明菜咬字模糊，乍聽真辨不出她唱的是英文．

 

 

［MODERN WOMAN (FEMME DAUJOURDHUI)］發行後，被用作先鋒公司《Private CD》770D 迷你組合立體聲系統的電視廣告歌曲。
