When asked “What thing about humanity surprises you the most?”, the Dalai Lama answered:

“Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

有人問達賴喇嘛：「人性最讓你驚奇的部分是甚麼？」他回答道，

「人嘛‧‧‧‧‧‧因為要賺錢而犧牲健康；因為要恢復健康而犧牲錢。然後因為憂心未來而未享受當下，結果是既沒活在當下，也沒活在未來。活著的時候好像不知道自己會死，而死的時候，卻好像從沒活過的樣子。」
